Wheeler Lumber R ailway Tie A ssociation Nisus Corporation Corporation Nisus iTek stries stries iTek %41556+'5ŖJULY/AUGUST 2015 5 AWPA Annual Meeting Another Success The American Wood Protection Association (AWPA) held its 111 th Annual Meeting in Asheville, N.C., in April, drawing more than 300 members, guests and others, said Execu- tive Director Colin McCown. The event kicked off Sunday morning with the Pickler's Prance 5K Run/Walk and the 2015 Hacker's Classic Golf Tournament. Several task groups met that afternoon, and the evening ended with the President's Reception on the terrace overlooking the city of Asheville and the sun setting over the Blue Ridge Mountains. The Opening Session began with a key- note presentation by Cindy Carpenter, edu- cation/interpretation program manager for the U.S. Forest Service. Carpenter discussed the history of the Cradle of Forestry and its connections to AWPA. 0RQGD\DQG7XHVGD\ZHUH¿OOHGZLWK LQIRUPDWLYHVFLHQWL¿FDQGWHFKQLFDOSUHVHQWD- tions, including the Colley/Hartford Lecture presented by Dr. Philip Evans of the Univer- sity of British Columbia. The technical sessions covered various topics such as envi- ronmental issues, current research, railroads and crossties, treated wood variability and conformance, regulatory status of heavy- duty wood preservatives, and wood preser- vation penetration. The Annual Meeting concluded with the Awards Reception on Tuesday evening, ZKHUHQHZ$:3$RI¿FHUVDQG([HFXWLYH Committee members were installed and Golf Tournament and Pickler's Prance awards were given.
