Located on 26 beautifully landscaped acres overlooking Estero Bay and the Gulf of Mexico, the resort is a haven for recreation and relaxation. Yet the relaxing surroundings are complemented by state- of-the-art business facilities, where official meetings will take place. The Latest Developments Following RTA's General Business Session and Welcome on Wednesday, sessions will explore a variety of topics, including economic factors affecting the wood tie industry, procurement issues, environmental factors, and other market challenges and opportunities. The always popular Engineering Forum will allow attendees to hear from several railroad engineers and contractors about projects that are underway or recently com- pleted. The Railroad Purchasing Forum, a stand- ing-room-only event, showcases railroads' purchasing expectations for the coming year. Networking & Relationship Building While the RTA conference is chock full of business, there is also time for network- ing built in. For example, the Annual Golf Tournament and other organized outings on Tuesday allow old friends to reconnect and new friendships to grow. The Annual President's Reception will be held later on Tuesday evening prior to the start of the sessions. The Annual Banquet and Awards Ceremony will highlight Wednesday night activities, where RTA will showcase the achievements of scholarship winners, award winners and others. The evening will include a wonderful meal and fun entertainment. Make Plans To Attend Now RTA Executive Director Jim Gauntt said the conference is a must-attend event for members. "As we enter into two years of RTA's Centennial Celebration, the first event to come is the 100th Annual Technical Conference and Symposium. We ask all members to consider coming to this once in a lifetime celebratory gathering and also provide ideas, memorabilia, pictures and thoughts that may be shared at this year's event," Gauntt said. "RTA also hopes to have retired past presidents attend with an invitation to be forthcoming. Finally, one of our most favorite entertainers ever, Rocky LaPorte, will join us once again at our gala banquet. This will be a fun and fabulous opportunity to relive RTA's century of ser- vice to the tie and railroad industries." Members of the audience are encouraged to ask questions and provide input. Also part of the conference is a focus on networking events, such as the Annual Golf Tournament, which will take place at the beautiful Raptor Bay Golf Course.
